| Content Publishing | |||||
|
ETI principals were founding members of the International Digital Publishing Forum, the standards body responsible for the creation of EPUB, the XML-based markup format that has become the industry standard. EPUB enables the creation and transport of reflowable digital books and other types of content as single-file digital publications that are interoperable between disparate EPUB-compliant reading devices and applications. EPUB encompasses a content container standard (Open Container Format — OCF), a packaging standard (Open Packaging Format — OPF), and a content markup standard (Open Publication Structure — OPS). EPUB is the native format of ETI’s content production and rendering systems, the standard has achieved wide industry adoption and is the source format used by most eBook Reading Systems today. |

ETI offers a content creation and preview tool, eBook Publisher, that allows publishers and third-party conversion houses to convert books, periodicals and other documents into EPUB format. The software runs on Windows and Macintosh desktop systems and is capable of processing text, EPUB, OEBPS, HTML and Microsoft Word and PowerPoint files into print-quality layouts for mutiple device types and applications. Automated scripts allow for daily, weekly or monthly publication creation, as soon as the data is available from the content purveyor. EPUB files are then paginated to deliver print-quality fidelity using ETI’s layout engine. This layout process may either be performed by ETI’s content servers before delivery to reading devices or applications (to increase performance and decrease local processing requirements), or may be performed locally within the reading device or application (for maximal flexibily and user control). |

Auto Publisher is the server-side portion of ETI’s eBook publishing system, performing pagination (for optimal device reading performance), compression and encryption functions prior to delivering the title to the targeted device. Auto Publisher is also capable of processing text, EPUB, HTML and Microsoft Word files into requisite layouts for mutiple device types and applications. This latter capability is used for personal content whereby users can upload various source formats to a Web server and subsequently download "their" personal titles for reading on their device(s). The ETI team works with publishers and conversion houses on a daily basis and is continually working to make eBook production a natural and automatic part of the traditional publishing process. |
