  • I would like to convert my books into the eBook Technologies eBook format. What do I have to do?

    eBook Technologies provides a complete set of publishing tools that allow you to convert content into the eBook Technologies format. To learn more about these tools visit the eBook Publisher section of this site.

  • Is it possible to publish my own documents?

    Yes you can publish your own documents from a variety of formats. Visit the Personal Content section to learn more.

  • What languages can the eBook display?

    eBook Technologies eBooks can display all languages that use Roman characters, such as English, French and German, including accent marks.

  • What format does the eBook Technologies eBook use? Can you talk a little about the future of eBook format?

    The eBook Technologies eBook supports an XML-based format. The founders of ETI are also a founding members of the Open eBook (OEB) Forum, a cross-industry group that is developing a standard publication format for all e-book devices.

  • Where can I buy books, magazines and newspapers for my eBook Technologies eBook?

    You can buy books and periodicals for your eBook Technologies eBook device from our partners eBookwise and Filament Books eBookstore or from participating Internet retail booksellers. You can buy content directly from your eBook device by connecting directly to the eBookstore from your device.

    Additionally, any unencrypted RB's (.rb format) can be uploaded to the device, regardless of where it was purchased. Visit the Personal Content section to learn more.

  • Do I need a PC to use an eBook?

    eBook Technologies eBooks are designed for portability and simplicity. Therefore no PC is required to use them, unless you are outside the United States or Canada and need to use a USB or an Ethernet connection to buy and download content.

  • Can I use an eBook while traveling on an airplane? Can I download titles from an airplane's phone connection?

    You certainly can. Like any other electronic device, your eBook must be turned off during takeoff and landing, but when you are at altitude, you can use your eBook. If the plane provides telephone service at your seat, you can access your Online Bookshelf or buy content. Please make sure that your eBook is fully charged before you board your flight.

  • I travel a lot. Can I use my device all around the world?

    You can of course read on your eBook wherever you go. If you want to recharge it while abroad, you have to use the appropriate adapters and voltage converters, as you must do with any other electronic product. Depending on your eBook model, you can connect to the eBook Network via the USB or Ethernet connection.

  • Where can I find instructions on how to access the various features available on my eBook?

    Each eBook comes with a User's Guide already loaded onto the eBookshelf. This User's Guide has hyperlinks to the various chapters, which enable you to jump instantly to the topic you choose.

  • Will eBooks ever replace textbooks in the classroom?

    The eBook Technologies eBook provides an exciting alternative to traditional textbooks and could find an appropriate home in the classroom, given the right technology and price. Electronic book devices are lightweight and can hold thousands of pages of curriculum content. eBook features - including reference look-ups, search, and cross-reference - offer a useful level of interactivity beyond that of the traditional textbook. In addition, information can be updated frequently, quickly, and cost-effectively with eBook.

  • Are you targeting the education market? What do you think about the viability of that market, in particular K-12? What are some of the current advantages or barriers to getting in that market?

    The education markets - including K-12, higher education, professional, and corporate training - offer exciting opportunities for eBook. eBook Technologies is exploring these markets.

  • Can any content specific to education, either higher ed or K-12, be downloaded to the device? Can users add their own content (e.g., teachers adding their own worksheets)?

    Content must be formatted specifically for eBook Technologies eBooks, which support an XML-based standard. Users can download personal content. Visit the Personal Content section to learn more.

  • Is the eBook available for use in any libraries? Will it cost any money to use eBook at a library and if so, how much?

    The eBook Technologies eBook can be found at hundreds of public and academic libraries throughout the country. Libraries buy and download content for each of their eBook devices and loan the devices to their patrons, just as they do with a traditional paper version of a book.
